Who We Are
The Mount Savage Volunteer Fire Department was instituted on September 8th 1896 by a group of men working for the C&P Railroad. It was incorporated in October of 1896 became the Mount Savage Volunteer Fire Department NO.1 Inc. The goal of Mount Savage Volunteer Volunteer Fire Department is to provide the best quality services for the citizens of Mount Savage and surrounding communities. This will be accomplished with professionalism through prevention, education and protection from life-altering emergencies
Emergency Medicine
Our ambulance service has a mixture of staff. Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 4:00 pm we have a paid provider. Weeknights and weekends we are a volunteer crew, consisting of Drivers, EMTs, and Medics. The department runs approximately 200-300 calls a year, covering all of Mount Savage, Barrelville, and parts of Wellersburg PA. We also run mutual aid to Frostburg when needed.
Firefighting
Training
The members of the Mount Savage Volunteer Fire Department obtain all formal training through the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute (MFRI). Members can obtain basic classes such as firefighter 1 and 2, pump operator, EVOC, First Responder, or EMT B. Some members are also certified in special operations such as Hazmat, Rescue Technician, High Angle Rescue, and many other special operation classes. MFRI has also provides classes for Fire Officers and EMS Officers.
